Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Puygueraud Rouge features bright, expressive scents of kirsch, black raspberries, and rose oil with touches of black pepper and tree bark. The full-bodied palate delivers mouth-filling, ripe black fruits with rounded tannins and a refreshing lift on the finish.

Concentrated in colour and character, this has dark berry fruits, a ton of orange peel and oyster shell, juicy on the finish. 15hl/ha yields after hail, a third of the usual harvest.

Inside Bordeaux

Sappy, vivid red and black fruits, nice depth of colour, and although there is austerity here, it is enjoyable, washed by cloves, black pepper and gunsmoke, 20% new oak casks, harvest 30 September to 7 October. In organic conversion. Family estate of Nicolas and Cyrille Thienpont. First vintage with some Malbec in the wine, tasted twice.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Puygueraud Rouge comes bombing out of the glass with energetic notes of fresh blueberries, black cherries, and anise leading to hints of violets, tar, and cumin seed. The medium-bodied palate delivers a racy backbone and lightly chewy tannins with just enough bright, crunchy black fruit flavors, finishing with a skip in its step. Nice! The blend is 90% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec.

Chewy tannins, densely packed black cherry and raspberry, sappy tannins with edges of chalk and slate. This is really rather beautiful, an exceptional vintage of this wine, and should be great value from the Thienpont family. 37.5hl/h yield, 25% oak, and the rest in casks and cement. Attractive nose, with marzipan, fennel, redcurrant fruits. There is a great clarity to the fruits on the palate, a little dilute through the mid palate but easy to drink, balanced, juicy, fresh. Chalky tannins, with grip. Tasted twice. One of the highest points of Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, helped mitigate the frost risk. Nicolas and Cyrile Thienpont, Julien Lavenu consultant, 42.9hl/h yield, Harvest September 30 to October 18.

Concentrated texture, with damson and black cherry fruits to the fore, and an undertow of limestone salinity underpinning the palate. Great quality in an appellation that did well in 2019, and an enjoyable twist of bitter almond on the finish. 50% aged in new oak, 50% stainless steel vats.
