The 2021 Mangot is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of black cherries, blackberries, and cedar chest soar from the glass, followed by hints of tar and black peppercorns. The medium-bodied palate has a fine-grained texture and compelling tension to offset the bright black fruit layers, finishing minerally.

On the slim and savoury side in bottle, fennel and rasperry and blueberry fruits, austere but with sculpted tannins and architecture. Enjoyable stuff from brothers Karl and Yann Todeschini. An upscore.

Inside Bordeaux

Going long on cloves and gently grilled cedar, this definitely has oak impact, and some sappy tannins, they are carefully building a wine with more ambition to age than many in the vintage; but it remains tight on the finish and a little soft on fruit.

Vibrant ruby in colour plenty of violet reflections, attractive En Primeur colour and aromatics, with estate signature. Pretty fresh acidities, a little overly sharp, but there is plenty of raspberry and redcurrant fruit to counterbalance, and the whole thing feels full of life and tension. The 2022 Mangot is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of minted blackberries, kirsch, and boysenberry preserves lead to hints of dried Provence herbs and wood smoke. The full-bodied palate has a firm, chewy texture with soft acidity and muscular fruit, finishing a little hard and flat.

Good grip, chalky tannins, juicy and poised black and blue fruits. Enjoyably plump with a saline kick. Todeschini family.
