A blend of 53% Sauvignon Blanc and 47% Semillon, the 2022 Le G de Chateau Guiraud bursts with expressive notions of apple butter, nectarines, and baker's yeast, plus wafts of honeysuckle and mandarin peel. The medium-bodied palate delivers soft acidity and plenty of ripe apple and stone fruit flavors, finishing on a yeasty note.

Such a consistent dry white in the appellation, this has the exotic mango, pineapple and nectarine depths to the fruit that is typical to the vintage, given a lift by pineapple and citrus zest. Good stuff, now overseen by Sandrine Garbay, formerly of Château d'Yquem.

Thoroughly enjoyable wine, although worth noting that Guiraud has now introduced a dry white wine in the range that sits above this one. The original is still great though - ripe but reserved, just at the right level of white peach and pear, tiny kick of fennel. A buy.

Amateur

The 2020 Le G de Chateau Guiraud Organic charges out with exuberant notes of ripe grapefruit, fresh Bosc pears, and honey-lemon, plus touches of paraffin wax and salted almonds. Medium-bodied, the palate is filled with savory and citrus layers, supported by soft acidity, finishing on a lingering almond note.

Touch of reduction, with flint and gunsmoke adding focus and interest. Stands out for its grip and tension and a feeling of depth to the stone and citrus fruit. Touches of green apple and gooseberry also.
