The Rousseau family owns this clay, limestone and gravel vineyard, a classic St Estèphe terroir. Intense, deep, slightly clunky tannins, old school and structured with attractive eucalyptus, mint and dark fruit character.

Inside Bordeaux

Plenty of investments here over the past few years, including completely redoing cellars and reworking vineyards vineyards (even planting Chardonnay, which will have its first vintage in 2023, athough not yet tasted by me). Blackberry and blueberry fruits kick things off, soft through the mid palate with gentle tannins, early drinking.

Concentrated ruby red in colour, big tannic frame, with undergrowth, rustic tannins, rosebud and raspberry leaf, a touch drying, this is enjoyable and unfussy, a little atypical in the vintage. Hubert de Bouard consultant.

Cinammon spice, heavy extraction, black cherry fruits with violet edges, there is plenty to enjoy through the palate here, with weight to the tannins but the oak a little dominant, with high acidities cutting things short. Should soften further over ageing. Tasted twice, three weeks apart.

Sursøte bjørnebær og jordbær, rips og noe floralsk.

Fairly low alcohol for the vintage, this retains a vibrant plum colour, slight pinking on the edges as heads towards the first tertiary notes. Enjoyable, ready to drink, a little soft through the mid palate, focusing on red cherry, raspberry, roasted almond, lemongrass and smoked earth, unfussy but with punch. This is a good wine, a little underwhelming in the context of the vintage.

Medium ruby, heading to tertiary on the aromatics and the palate. Retracts rather than expands through the mid palate, but this has gentle charm, tobacco and iris flowers, charming, a thoroughly enoyable wine but could be 10 years older than the vintage on the label. 30% new oak, harvest September 29 to October 19.
